Foothills XIII Open Results

It was a competitive day filled with upsets at the THE FOOTHILLS XIII OPEN held at the
Phyllis Wheatley YWCA. Now for the results, in the Championship division Sameh (Sammy)
Awadallah (TN) was Victorious after being upset by John Mar in group 1 play. During cross over play
Sammy only lost one game in his two matches to win the tournament. John Mar (GA) gets some
points for the upset but also gets 2nd place. Zhiqiao Xie (MS) gets 3rd after losing to Sammy in cross
over but winning over Kwaovi Didi De Souza (GA) who gets 4th in the battle for 3rd place.

In division A play, David C. Girdner (TN) had his best KTTC tournament to date with enough upsets to
take the bonus 30 gold dollars for most upsets along with 1st place in division A. Ely Yang (TN) takes
2nd after falling to David C. Gridner and winning over Art Xu. But alas, 3rd place goes to Art Xu (KY) for
defeating Rod Sneath (IN) who gets 4th even after going 3-0 in group 1 play.
Don’t let it go to your head David, but Great Job!

The upsets continue in division B play as Jonathan Foulds (TN) upsets Danny Feldman (AL) for 1st
place and 2nd place respectively, while Xiaofeng Guo (TN) takes 3rd for taking Blair Wilson (GA) who
gets 4th .

Division C holds high Takumi Nakamura (TN) who ran undefeated through the afternoon group and
cross over play to take 1st defeating Fangxing (Fran) Li (TN) getting 2nd place. Archie Jordan (TN)
narrowly gets 3rd by the besting the improving Kathryn McMillin (TN) who gets 4th place.

Finally, in division D a new up and comer Sabrina Chua (GA) gets 3 upsets on her way to an
undefeated afternoon secession to take 1st place. While Patrick McConnell (TN) takes 2nd , and the
match for 3rd leaves Kweku Korsah (KY) over David Roddick (NC) who gets 4th place.
